After a gruelling 8 year wait it has finally been officially announced from Rockstar.
Grand Theft Auto VI. The sixth instalment of the GTA series is definitely in production and officially confirmed as on its way to our desktops and consoles, at some point in the future anyway.
GTA VI Timescale
Nobody is putting a timescale on this release for GTA VI. It’s literally taken Rockstar over 8 years just to acknowledge the fact it is in production, let alone entertaining the fact of throwing around a release date for the game.
We are optimistic though on the release date, we would be pretty confident in saying 2022 would be the release date, albeit the back end of. A Christmas release would be perfect timing for Rockstar, as it’s a good middle way for the franchise and the Red Dead Redemption franchise too. Alternating a particular number of years between the two means Rockstar will remain on top for decades to come with two of the most popular titles ever released.
Just as you get bored of GTA, a new RDR pops up, and vice versa. What we have also come to realise is, the RDR game is usually developed on the current GTA engine. It wasn’t long ago Rockstar confirmed development of RDR3, which in turn would mean the GTA VI engine is out of the initial development stage and must be a robust engine to go forward developing RDR3 on.
With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.
On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!
What to Expect
We should now start expecting teases throughout 2022 from Rockstar, as they build up the hype towards a November or December release. This gives them almost 12 months of marketing, teasing and easter-egg-dropping momentum.
Rockstar tie down most of their games to their own game launchers. In particular the Rockstar Club launcher. This gives them a direct window to advertise, market and hype up GTA VI straight to their existing fan-base. They also have a massive community on their own website to advertise to, also the shortcomings of what the trilogy turned out to be, was probably a good step towards boosting fan morale because let’s be honest, it was the biggest let down to date.
GTA 6 2022 Release Date
You may wonder why we think a 2022 release is imminent. Aside from the points we’ve already stated above, you have to also look at a few other factors in the gaming world.
2022 has so far seen the Activision takeover from Microsoft, which is monumental and record-breaking. Microsoft now own the rights to many of the world’s top gaming titles including Call of Duty.
This year also sees the line-up of some awesome game titles coming out including a new Rainbow Six (Extraction), Saints Row, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, to name the least. So as well as saving their own skin from the flop that was the GTA Trilogy Remaster, they are also up against some top titles being released this year and they are up against Microsoft taking over Activision which is definitely the scariest feat across the board. No doubt Sony may have applied some pressure to Take-Two/Rockstar maybe? As they too, need to pull something out of the bag regarding the console war which Microsoft have just thrown a huge trump card into.
We will wait with bated breath for the next announcement from Rockstar.
In the meantime, don’t forget you can develop your own GTA V custom game launchers here.
